Living with an immune deficiency
Diseases of the immune system are characterised by a temporary or permanent impairment or even a malfunction of the body's defence system. At the same time, the ability of the body to fight penetrating mibrobes is often reduced. As a result, infectious diseases occur more frequently and with more severe symptoms.
A primary immune deficiency is often diagnosed years after the appearance of the first symptoms. Some of these diseases are severe and are already diagnosed in the first year of life or in childhood; others are much milder manifest themselves in adulthood, only.
